Target Audience

Our certified courses have been designed to meet the educational needs of health care providers involved in the care of patients in cardiac arrest.


Educational Objectives

The distinct educational objectives that each certification adheres to can be found below. After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Identify and explain respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest until termination of resuscitation or immediate post-cardiac arrest care
  • Recognize the appropriate life support algorithm upon recognition of specific needs of patient in acute life-threatening situation
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the types and dosages of medications commonly used
  • Practice efficient communication and performance methods working as a member within, or a team leader of, a resuscitation team
  • Employ competence in Basic Life Support (BLS) care, including proper administration of CPR and proper use of an automated external device (AED)
  • Apply appropriate care and counsel for patients and their families

ACLS

Advanced Cardiac Life Support is a system of techniques and procedures designed to sustain life after Basic Life Support methods have been employed to resuscitate a person who has suffered from a heart attack or other potentially fatal repository condition.

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Identify the first assessment in emergency response
  • Review basic life support (BLS) principles and their role in ACLS
  • Explain the principles and rationale behind defibrillation
  • Integrate the concepts of “Systems of Care” in resuscitation scenarios, including Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) and Stroke
  • Discuss the roles of the Rapid Response Team and the Resuscitation Team
  • Recognize the algorithms for specific ACLS cases

PALS

Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification means that the trained healthcare professional is able to recognize and intervene in cases of cardiopulmonary emergencies in infants and children.

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Explain the importance of prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest in children
  • Review pediatric basic life support (BLS) principles and their role in PALS
  • Integrate the concepts of the “Pediatric Chain of Survival” in resuscitation scenarios
  • Recognize the algorithms for specific PALS cases

BLS

Basic Life Support Certification refers to the type of training that healthcare providers and professionals, as well as first-responders and medical assistants receive in order to make them equipped to provide support in emergency cases such as cardiac/respiratory arrest or airway obstruction.

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Explain the general concepts of Basic Life Support for children and adults
  • Have working knowledge of the principles of 1 and 2 rescuer CPR
  • Explain how to perform CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • Discuss the basic operation of automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
  • Discuss the algorithms for specific BLS cases
  • Explain basic airway management
  • Explain how to act to relieve choking

In order to obtain your CE certificate, please follow the steps below at the conclusion of the activity:

  • If you receive a message when creating a new account that “the email you entered is already in use”, please click the forgot my username or password link to have your Username and Password sent to you via email

  • After logging in, you may be asked to verify/update your information; after doing so, click Save at the bottom of the page

  • 3. Type in <18284 or 18413> at the top of the page, “Find Post-Test/Evaluation by Course”, and click enter


    4. Click on the activity title when it appears


    5. Choose the type of credit you desire


    6. (If applicable) Complete the Post-test with a passing score of 75% or better


    7. Complete the online Evaluation


    8. Receive an immediate CE Certificate to download and/or print for your files

    For Pharmacists: Upon successfully completing the post-test with a score of 75% or better (if applicable) and the activity evaluation form, transcript information will be sent to the NABP CPE Monitor Service.
