To give the victim the greatest chance of survival with brain and heart function still intact, the ILCOR highlights the importance of coordinated care within a system. This care begins with a systematic approach to basic life support, proceeds to the interventions detailed in advanced life support, and concludes with post-resuscitation care designed to return the victim to optimal health. These methodical guidelines are displayed in the form of algorithms for each level of life support. The ILCOR recommends reviewing these algorithms and the ideas behind them at least once every two years.
